Andy and Ben, along with their teammates, have earned their spot to compete at the FIPFA Club World Cup in June, 2025 and need our help to get there!
Ability Apartment tenants Andy and Ben have been teammates for more than a decade and share a passion for Powerchair Football. Together, they founded a team in 2013 and quickly became the first ever Powerchair Soccer Team to be officially associated with a professional club.
A Dream Realised: The 2025 FIPFA Club World Cup
As part of The Western Sydney Wanderers Powerchair Soccer Team, Andy and Ben, along with their teammates, have earned a spot at the FIPFA Club World Cup in June 2025. They’re the only Aussie team competing in the first ever club tournament facing off against teams from the UK, France, Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay. The tournament will be held every 4 years from now on and will act as a significant international opportunity to further both interest and participation the sport.
Talent and Perseverence
With Ben serving as the team’s Captain and Andy serving as Vice Captain, the team has shown incredible determination and talent to be selected for this event. Their journey to this point has been equally as exciting with dedicated weekly training sessions and a season of tough matches leading to their selection. The final game was a nail-biting match-up between the Newcastle Jets and The Western Sydney Wanderers won by a penalty shootout! We hope that the tournament itself brings as many exciting moments too.
Help Ben and Andy get to Paris!
Traveling from Sydney to Paris obviously comes with significant costs and the team receives no financial support for the costs of travel, accommodation, or equipment, despite being associated with the Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club. Without some help, these athletes will face financial barriers that could prevent them from participating in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. A number of generous donations have been made already to their GoFundMe page and we’d love to see them reach their goal!
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in helping the team achieve their goals and bring pride to Western Sydney and Australia.
